The Zytec Corporation was an OEM PSU manufacturer was founded in Minnesota USA in 1983. It successfully went public 10 years later in 1993 for a total of $9.2 million.
In 1998 Zytec merged with PSU manufacturing rival Computer Products in a $530 million stock swap. The merged company was called Artesyn Technologies. As a result of the merger, Artesyn Technologies then employed 6,500 people worldwide and became one of the largest OEM power supply manufacturers in the world.
In 2006 electronics company Emerson became owners of Artesyn, selling it on to 7 years later to global investment firm Platinum Equity.
In May 2019, Advanced Energy Industries Inc., who for years had specialised in High Voltage PSU products acquired Artesyn Embedded Technologies’ Embedded Power business. This only included the Artesyn and Astec PSU brands. Artesyn’s computing and consumer PSU businesses remained part of Platinum Equity, but has subsequently been purchased by SMART Global Holdings.
