A simplified timeline of the TDK Lambda / Coutant / Weir / Invensys story.
1935 – TDK which stands for ‘Tokyo Denki Kagaku Kōgyō K.K.’ (Tokyo Electric Chemical Industry Co., Ltd.) formed in Tokyo to manufacture ferrite cores.
1948 – Lambda Electronics is formed in the USA.
1959 – Coutant Electronics of Reading UK setup to build power supplies.
1962 – Coutant acquired by venture capitalists Unitech and moved to Ilfracombe, Devon.
1988 – Unitech acquired the Lambda group from Veeco.
1989 – Formation of Coutant-Lambda, from the bringing together of Lambda and Coutant.
1995 – Weir-Lambda become a part of Unitech Plc specialising in PSUs for the expanding Telecoms market.
1996 – Unitech was acquired by Siebe.
1999 – Siebe was acquired by BTR.
1999 – After the merger of BTR Industries and Siebe, the new group was renamed Invensys.
2005 – Invensys sold the Lambda businesses to TDK of Japan.
2008 – Coutant-Lambda became TDK-Lambda (UK).
